What was a 400 year old coaching inn , is now a top-class pub/restaurant with rooms. It's situated on a steep crag, in 60 acres of its own grounds, high above Lake Windermere.
It makes an excellent base from which to explore the area and on the accommodation front, offers a selection of comfortable bedrooms, ranging from compact 'Standards' , above the inn, to more spacious 'Superior' and 'Deluxe' rooms overlooking the courtyard or tarn.
'Deluxe' rooms all have king-sized beds and separate showers, as well as baths. All are tastefully decorated.
On the food front, chef, Marcus Hall offers a menu of carefully-sourced produce, much of it local, but he has kept up with trends - so traditional dishes might have modern twists. See our 'Restaurant' section - note that children under 14 aren't allowed in the dining room during the evening.
