Although not easy to find on a dark night, it's worth persevering because this inn is a real one-off - beautifully situated by the River Hodder and next to the village church. It's neither hotel, nor pub, nor restaurant, but successfully combines all three, and run with warmth and friendliness by the Bowman family. It's amongst the best places to stay in the area.
On the ground floor you'll find two bars, including a stone-floored tap room, a library with a splendid collection of Wisdens; plus endless corridors with display cabinets and seats dotted around, just in case you lose your bearings.
Their comfortable and spacious bedrooms are tastefully-furnished including many antique items, plus top-quality beds with hand-finished mattresses, modern TV's, DVD players, music systems, Wi-Fi Internet access and characterful bathrooms some with a pleasant Victorian feel about them, several with freestanding tubs and brass showers. Around half have open fires.
Business visitors have state of the art meeting fasilities, catering for up to 16 delegates.
They are particularly-proud of their hearty breakfasts; while their dining room is a magnet for many miles around.
