What started life as a coaching inn, is now a top-class hotel with beautiful views over the Dales. It's set in parkland which stretches down to the River Wharfe. The building has been owned by the Grosvenor family since 1753, and is still one of their pride and joys.
The comfortable sitting rooms have a real country house feel, particularly in chilly months when their log fires crackle.
Sumptuous bedrooms, some with four posters, have period furniture and plush bathrooms and top-quality toiletries. They also have a Wi-Fi facility, to keep you in touch with the outside world. Try to secure a bedroom in the main house, as they have more character. More recent wings are more uniform in size and style, though they are equally inviting and comfortable.
Everything's on hand for a pampered, relaxing break, including an indoor pool, well-equipped gym, spa and sauna. While Golf, Riding and Shooting can be arranged.
You needn't even travel for excellent food, as their Burlington restaurant is on site; plus a brasserie for less serious dining - where children are offered their own menu. See our 'Restaurant' section.
