Located in a relatively quiet residential part of Knightsbridge, this hotel dates from the early 1970's, is built of Portland stone, and has a very solid and somewhat unprepossessing exterior, but the interior bears the hallmarks of a truly luxury hotel. Panelling by Lutyens and a collection of glittering chandeliers are features and outstanding flower arrangements and highly polished marbles of different hues create an impressive entrance. While the striking Blue Bar enlivens the reception rooms.
Bedrooms are luxurious and all decorated in good taste. They range from standards, seemingly differing from superior rooms in being marginally smaller. Many rooms have a separate dressing room and immaculate Italianate marble bathroom, which feature a wealth of extras including towelling slippers. There are bedside and bath-side valet buttons which are answered promptly, typifying service of an exemplary standard. All have plasma TV's, DVD & CD players, plus every conceivable need.
There are spacious 21 suites (see photograph), plus three top-level suites - two with their own conservatory/terrace - so you can enjoy al fresco dining..
On the top floor, is a leisure complex with a swimming pool that in summer can slide its roof back.
The indoor restaurants include 'Boxwood' and 'Petrus' (both q.v's in our Restaurant' section).
Breakfast is charged extra, on an à la carte basis.
A truly sumptuous place to stay for the well-heeled.
