If you're romantically-inclined, and visiting Cumbria, you'd be hard put to find a better combination than the top quality food on offer here, and then sinking into bed in the civilised surroundings of L'Enclume.
This sleepy village is now famous for this excellent restaurant with rooms as well as its Post Office, from which Sticky Toffee Pudding has seemingly been re-launched to the world. Both have put Cartmel well and truly on the culinary map.
The restaurants unlikely name comes from the fact it was converted from a former smithy l'enclume being the French for anvil.
Seven, compact, but beautifully-furnished bedrooms are on offer (some in an adjacent cottage, and two with a access to a small terrace. All have en suite facilities with fluffy towels and top-class toiletries.
In the morning you'll be treated to a first class breakfast in the conservatory.
