Built in 1823 by a wealthy Liverpool shipping merchant, this is now a comfortable hotel and destination restaurant set in beautiful secluded grounds. It's just a short walk from the town centre and Lake Windermere.
Bedrooms have over-size beds and all the expected modern amenities such as TV's, tea and coffee making facilities and ensuite bathrooms. Slightly more spacious 'Superior' rooms, at the front of the hotel have balconies except for one (14) which has its own patio and garden. The latter and one of the suites (see below) are equipped for the use of disabled guests.
There are 2 spacious, luxury, suites in an annexe close to the hotel one sleeping up to 5 guests.
Public rooms include comfortable sitting rooms and meeting rooms ideal for business. Traditional afternoon tea is served every day between 15.30 to 17.30.
Guests have free use of a nearby leisure centre, with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, spa bath; and permits may be obtained for trout fishing.
Enquire about special themed weekends and holidays.
They close for about 3 weeks in January.
