What looks like a creeper-clad inn at the bottom of the High Street, is an excellent hotel/restaurant cosy in winter with real fires and cool in good weather with a small conservatory overlooking a paved terraced area. The latter is a fine spot for afternoon tea in summer, overlooking a circular lawn and immaculately kept, compact terraced gardens.
Public rooms include an intimate, bookcase-lined bar, comfortable sitting room and a rather dark dining room, only the front part of which benefits from the lovely garden views at breakfast.
Bedrooms range from four singles overlooking the gardens to three antique-furnished suites (some with four-poster beds), one with two bathrooms. All have modern TV's, writing desks, hairdryers, modern en suite bathrooms and complimentary morning tea and coffee. Three larger rooms are suitable for families.
There are comfortable meeting rooms for business users; while you can eat in an informal brasserie (see photo) or their excellent Terrace Restaurant; recently pulled into the 21st century by top chef Shaun Hill, before his departure to Worcester.
Guests have use of a spa/leisure centre in nearby Brockenhurst.
