Commanding a majestic view over Lake Windermere, this house was originally built in the early 19th century, and bought as a hunting lodge in 1888 by Lord Lonsdale of boxing belt fame. Today it is a comfortable hotel and destination restaurant run by the Nicholson family.
Whatever time of year, it has a timeless, lived-in feel with the welcoming scents of fresh flowers in summer and pine logs glowing in the inglenook in cold weather.
Bedrooms vary in size and some have views over the lake to the Langdale Fells. All have over-size beds with Egyptian cotton bedlinen, modern TV's with extra satellite channels and DVD players, music systems, direct dial phones, hair dryers and trouser presses. All have en suite bathrooms, with top-quality toiletries and fluffy bathrobes some have smart mahogany fittings. Many have balconies or patios.
As well as comfortable lounges, and the restaurant, there's a modern health spa for the enjoyment of guests.
There's a comfortable 2 bedroom suite in the grounds, plus a 3 bedroom house with private gardens and breathtaking views of the lake.
