Standing in 135 between Turners Hill and East Grinstead, the oldest parts of this imposing country mansion date from the early 17th century, though the site has been occupied continuously since the 14th. It's a luxurious place to stay if you need peaceful accommodation handy Gatwick Airport, but with a real felling of the countryside.
Leading from an impressive glass-fronted foyer, a succession of grand day rooms is replete with high-quality antiques, valuable paintings, silk Chinoiserie panels and immaculately-restored wood panelling.
Bedrooms are divided between those in the main house - with traditional yew furniture original 17th century paintings; and those over the impressive 'Utopia Spa', which have crisp modern furnishing. All have over-size beds with top-quality Egyptian cotton bedlinen, modern TV's with extra satellite channels, Wi-Fi internet access and all the expected modern amenities; plus plush en suite bathrooms. Some in the original house have four posters.
You can eat in the popular Brasserie, or the more formal Restaurant.
There are good meeting rooms on site, plus a putting green; while archery and clay pigeon shooting can be arranged with a little notice.
No children of under 7 years of age are catered for.
