Mincemeat Recipe

This will have more character than anything you can buy at a supermarket, for your Mince Pies. If you put it in sterilised jars, it will keep for months in a cool place and further improve.

For 8 greedy people:
180gr/6 oz Beef or Vegetable ‘Suet’
180gr/6 oz Currants
180gr/6 oz Raisins
180gr/6 oz Sultanas
2 dessert Apples, peeled, cored and finely-chopped
180gr/6 oz Brown Sugar
90gr/3 oz Chopped Mixed Peel
90gr/3 oz Chopped Blanched Almonds
the grated rind of 1 Lemon
½ teaspoon (2ml) Mixed Spice
2 tablespoons (30ml) Brandy


1.Mix all the ingredients together and put them through a mincer, or give them a few whirls in a food processor on pulse.

2.Store in sterilised jars until needed.
