Fruit – to ripen

Not a recipe - but away out of a problem.

If you enjoy cooking take a minute to look at - top-class dishes from beginners upwards

Your unripe fruit.

If you have bought an avocado, melon, pear or peach which is unripe, and standing on the window sill for a few days has had no avail, put the fruit in a paper or plastic bag with a ripe banana or tomato.

These fruit give out ethylene, when ripe, the gas parially-responsible for ripening fruit.
Your chosen fruit should ripen quickly, but remember, that in the case of pears, they ripen from the core out – so might be riper than you think, from a mere squeeze!
