A good Italian restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere. It was originally part of the Duke of York's barracks, and as much of the original brickwork as possible has been retained. On sunny days, it's also pleasant eating outside, where you are protected from any breeze by small trees and glass screens.
The menu follows the seasons, and fish fish figures prominently, especially among the main courses. So expect the likes of 'Buffalo Mozzarella with Speck and Rocket'; 'Smoked Swordfish with Fennel and Lemon'; 'Braised Octopus with Tomato, Shallots and Capers' and 'Mixed Antipasti' (minimum of 2 people) - among the starters.
If have a 'Secundi' - or are treating it as a main course; you'll find a risotto of the day; possibly 'Risotto allo Zafferano e Midollo di Vitello' (Saffron Risotto with Marrow Bone); plus a good selection of pasta dishes, maybe including 'Ravioli con Coniglio e Salsiccia Luganega' (Rabbit & Luganega Sausage Ravioli) and 'Linguine con Triglia, Aglio, Pomodoro e Olive Nere' (Linguine with Red Mullet, Tomato, Black Olives and Garlic).
While for mains 'Calves Liver with Swiss Chard, Balsamic Vinegar and Pine Nuts'; 'Char-Grilled Leg of Lamb with Pepperonata and Aubergine Purée' and 'Pan-Fried Wild Salmon with Fregola and Morbido Braised Vegetables' set the style.
If you still have room, you might be tempted by 'Cherry Tart with Vanilla Ice Cream'; 'Amaretti and Dark Chocolate Semifreddo' or their selection of Regional Italian Cheeses.
Prices are firm, particularly for some of the pasta dishes, but generally-speaking the quality is high.
Try to avoid particularly busy periods - such as The Chelsea Flower Show, when we have had reports of very over-stretched service. If this happens to you, please keep us informed.
There's also a comfortable bar, which along with their next door café/deli, makes an excellent meeting place.
