Restaurant 22

22 Chesterton Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, CB4 3AX
Find this charming candlelit restaurant set in a period town house on the inner ring road. The monthly-changing, fixed-price menu offers four choices at each stage with supplements of £7.00 for an optional fish course and the cheese (a plated selection of four British), if the latter is taken in addition to the pud.
The menu mixes the traditional and the contemporary – winter starters might include ‘Venison Ravioli with Sautéed Mushrooms and Lambs Kidneys’ and ‘Ham Hock with Celeriac Rémoulade’. Summer perhaps ‘Goats Cheese and Roast Pepper Dartois with Sherry and Walnut Vinaigrette’ and ‘Scotch Egg with Black Pudding and Apple Salad’.
Similarly winter mains - ‘Roast Ballotine and Loin of Rabbit with Celeriac Fondants’ and ‘Roast Partridge with Winter Cabbage and Port Jus’ and in summer possibly ‘Steamed Sea Trout with a Casserole of Young Vegetables in a Butter and Fennel Sauce’.
Desserts are a high point possibly including ‘Grand Marnier Parfait, Orange Salad and Biscotti’; ‘Armagnac Parfait with Prunes in Earl Grey Syrup’ or in autumn months perhaps ‘Roast Figs with Caramel Sauce and Vanilla Ice Cream.
Service is both friendly and professional.
They occasionally hold evening wine events – these are popular and worth an enquiry.

What did you like about the Restaurant?

We eat here regularly and we can honestly say that we think it is the best restaurant in Cambridge. We have never had cause to complain about anything. To begin with it is not a 'chain' restaurant. The food is locally sourced and very fresh and appropriate for the season.
There is always a good choice and plentiful portions. The staff seem to treat everyone in a very personal manner. There is just the right time between courses.
The setting is comfortable and made to make you feel relaxed.

What did you like about the Restaurant?

We were very lucky as we got a table without a booking. The staff were friendly and we had a most relaxing meal with excellent food and decent wine at an affordable price.

It is a pity that it is an hour and a half away - otherwise we would be regulars. Great!
