Find this good seafood restaurant on the A29, about 8 miles south of Dorking. The establishment also has a pub section, acting as a village 'local' - and offering its own lengthy but lighter menu - including the likes of 'Fish & Chips'; 'Fish Cakes'; Salads and various Steaks from the grill.
In both sections, expect old beams and solid wooden tables dressed-up with fresh flowers and crisp linen napkins.
The main restaurant menu relies on the daily catch, and simplicity rather than over-complication - allowing honest flavours to shine through.
Starters such as 'Shetland Mussels' (à la crème/Provencal/Thai spices); 'Seared Scallops with Celeriac Rémoulade & Grilled Pancetta' 'Fish Soup with Gruyere Croûtons & Rouille' and a much-enjoyed 'Arbroth Smokies Three Ways' (twice baked soufflé/Fishcake/Mousse) set the style.
Perhaps to be followed by Sea Bass, Sea Bream, Lemon Sole and the like with different combinations. An inspection visit found 'Lemon Sole with Lemon & Herb Butter'; 'Pan-Fried Swordfish Steak with Black Olive Crushed Potatoes & Salsa Verde' and 'Sea Bream Fillets with Orange-Braised-Chicory & Beetroot Purée' among the listings.
Fish is carefully cooked, but we have found vegetables to be too much of an afterthought - with steamed sliced courgettes, withered French beans and cabbage (all seamingly unseasoned) - nowhere near the mark needed!
If you still have room, you might be tempted by the likes of 'Tart Tatin'; 'Milk Chocolate Mousse with Cinnamon Shortbread' or 'Red Wine Poached Pear with Raspberry Sorbet' - all tasty and tempting.
Friendly, helpful service.
