An excellent gastro pub specialising in traditional British food with a modern twist.
While the menu follows the seasons, a late Spring menu brought 'Cream of Mushroom & Sherry Soup with Crispy Shallots'; 'Potted Gloucester Old Spot with Pickled Pears & Crackling Salad' and 'Fresh Whitby Crab on Toast with Mayonnaise' among the starters.
'Oxtail Casserole with Baby Onions & Horseradish Dumplings'; 'Steamed Leek, Walnut & Chestnut Pudding with Purple Sprouting Broccoli'; 'Wild Rabbit & Trotter Pie with a Suet Crust' and 'Grey Mullet Fillet with Samphire & Brown Shrimp Butter' listed among the mains.
Try to leave room for a dessert, which come with matching wine - 'Local Rhubarb Crumble with home-made Ripple Ice Cream'; 'Lavender Burnt Cream' and ' Ginger Parkin with Butterscotch Sauce' setting the style. Those with a more savoury tooth should enjoy their selection of British Artisan Cheeses.
They have won National awards for their Sunday lunch, which is deservedly popular.
