This family run freehouse inn, dating back to the 13th century, was converted from a flour mill during the 1970's, and now offers real ales in a charming rustic setting. It also takes food seriously.
The kitchen, under the leadership of Bill Gott, has built up a good source of local suppliers - while fish is delivered daily from Brixham. In summer, their decked terrace is an ideal place to eat. Or just relax with a drink.
Lunch brings freshly-cut sandwiches, light meals such as 'Smoked Haddock Rarebit' (sic) and ''Penne Pasta with Roast Mediterranean Vegetables' to more substantial dishes such as 'Roast Belly Pork with Roast Potatoes, Buttered Cabbage & Apple Sauce' and 'Homemade Pie of the Day'.
The evening brings an expanded menu with the addition of starters such as 'Devilled Lambs Kidneys, Mushroom, Bacon & Toast'; 'Grilled Field Mushrooms, Garlic & Herb Butter and Granary Toast' and 'Smoked Gressingham Duck Breast with Fine Bean, Pickled Ginger & Shallot Salad'.
Dishes such as 'Roast Marinated Lamb Rack with Roast Pepper & Cherry Tomato Chutney & Root Vegetable Crisps'; 'Char-Grilled Ribeye Steak with Herb-Roasted Onions, Big Chips and Port & Thyme Sauce'; 'Garlic-Crusted Pollack Fillet, Roast Cherry Tomatoes and Sweet Pepper Coulis' and 'Steak, Onion & Bacon Pudding with Roast Garlic Mash' might follow.
