Butlers Wharf, Shad Thames, London, London, SE1 2YGAlthough part of a chain (Mitchells & Butlers), Browns was started in Brighton during 1973 - on a theme based on Parson's in London's Fulham Road. Now, having spread across much of the country, each branch is run in a such a professional manner, that each branch still feels like a stand-alone business - and the customer is made to feel special.
If you just want to take the weight off your feet, you can just have a cup of coffee, hot chocolate or glass of wine - or perhaps Afternoon Tea, which includes a Champagne version.
The day starts with Breakfast, when dishes range from pastries and Granola, through Scrambled Eggs on Toasted Sourdough to Full English.
Their full à la carte menu comes into operation at noon, and then runs all day - and there should be something for everyone from 'Plates to Share' and graze from - to starters such as 'Prawn Cocktail with Brown Bread & Butter'; 'Half a Dozen Rock Oysters with Shallot Vinegar, Lemon & Tabasco'; 'Chicken & Duck Liver Parfait with Apple, Pear & Onion Chutney & Toasted Rye Bread' and 'Goats' Cheese & Red Onion Tart with Roast Red Pepper & Rocket'.
Mains will include the likes of their own popular Burgers plus maybe 'Calves Liver & Bacon with Mashed Potato & Green Peppercorn Sauce'; 'Grilled Breast of Guinea Fowl, with its Braised Leg & a Coq au Vin-style Sauce'; 'Whole Baked Sea Bream with Lemon & Ginger with Wilted Spinach & New Potatoes' and Steaks done various ways. Vegetarians have plenty of options.
They have plenty of gluten-free options.
If you just fancy a Pud with your cup of coffee, or to round off your meal, you might be tempted by 'Profiteroles with Warm Chocolate Sauce'; 'Brioche Bread & Butter Pudding' and 'Sticky Toffee Pudding' there to tempt you.
If we have one complaint, it's that their chocolate sauce, lacks chocolate umph!
