Find this good Art Deco foodie pub on the city's northern suburbs between the Woodstock Road and the Oxford Canal.
As well as a real ales, the generally well-heeled locals are treated to a seasonal menu carefully-put-together by chef/proprietor Jamie King. As is the current fashion local is the name of the game if trying to capture this market and this has largely achieved.
Expect traditional pub dishes, enlivened with a few modern twists all skilfully cooked, making this a dining room to seek out!
For a Light Bite dishes such as 'Smoked Salmon & Scrambled Eggs on Toast' and 'Steak Sandwich with Rocket, Vine Tomatoes & Chips' might be of offer.
For something more substantial, an early Summer snapshot brought 'Homemade Bresaola with Brad Beans, Pea Shoots & Olive Oil'; 'Devilled Lambs Kidneys with Creamed Spinach & Toast'; 'Beetroot & Thyme Risotto' and 'Diver-Caught Scallops with Pea & Mint Purée, Watercress & Vegetable Relish' among the starters.
'Pork & Herb Sausages with Mash and Beer & Onion Gravy'; 'Steak & Kidney Pudding'; 'Grilled Corn-Fed Chicken with Jersey Royals, Asparagus, Broad Beans & Herbs' and 'Smoked Haddock Fishcakes with Ginger/Lime Mayo & Chip.
Daily sustainable-fish dishes (from day boats) and other specials all add to the interest.
A few puds, such as Treacle Tart and Chocolate Brownies plus good ice creams and sorbets complete the culinary picture.

What did you like about the Restaurant?
Close to visitor moorings on the Oxford canal, the bar is dog friendly and has a cheery log fire in autumn/winter. The restaurant tables get booked up pretty fast in the evening, but if there is space in the bar take it because the food is very satisfying.
